Ellis Island is a piece of land that a man named Samuel Ellis bought. After he died, people expanded (made bigger) it and built an Immigration Center on it, but kept the name. Immigration Centers were for inspecting people for identity theft, diseases, and even birth marks (to see if you were "you" and not an identity thief). To learn more, go to the "Study Here!" page.
